Winter brings a lot of skin troubles for most of us. Not only does one’s skin become irritable, but it also becomes dry and dehydrated, causing various skin related issues. It’s no wonder that most of us resort to creams and ointments to beat the winter blues.
One particular area that that suffers is our lips as the skin is extremely delicate, In some extreme cases, it even leads to cracking and bleeding.
One of the most prominent causes of chapped lips during winters is dehydration and lack of certain essential vitamins in our diet. Vitamins A, B, and C help in restoring the skin nourishment and repair the damaged skin tissues. They also stimulate collagen production, which promotes healthier looking lips. Given how chapped our lips could be during the winter season, we are often instinctively licking our lips more often than required, rendering them even more damaged and dried-out than before.. Make sure that you use an oil based balm which will keep the lips protected for longer, especially when you are outside. The added protective layer can go a long way in preventing lips from getting chapped. Central heating also leaves the air dry in our homes, a good remedy is to place a bowl of water on the radiator or use a vaporizer to keep the air and your skin hydrated.
Exfoliating the lips can help to remove dead skin, there are many balms on the market or you can use a honey and brown sugar mix. Make sure you apply a balm after scrubbing to protect the lips.
