Hair Loss Treatment at Borciani London

Hair loss for men can often impact confidence and is ageing – for women hair loss can seriously damage self-esteem and a sense of femininity.

Until recently, the only treatment options have been expensive and painful hair replacement surgeries or product and supplements which are rarely effective.

Hair loss occurs in many ways, for men this is often crown balding or a progressively receding hairline.  Women’s hair loss can be due to more complex medical reasons and can occur in patches, thinning hair across the scalp or an uneven hairline with receding areas.

What Causes Hair Loss

There is no singular cause of hair loss. Alopecia, for example, is often caused by conditions that affect the immune system, while male pattern baldness and female pattern baldness are believed to be triggered either by hormonal changes or through hereditary genes. This means that if your parents suffered with thinning hair, then there are chances that you may too have it.

Hair loss is also caused by a poor diet, stress and can be attributed to environmental factors, such as pollution and cigarette smoke. Anything that can prevent the hair follicles from doing their job correctly and slowing down growth of new hairs is a factor that can be counted for hair loss.

Why is my hair thinning?

You may start to notice more hair in the shower or on your hairbrush or that your scalp looks a little more visible than before.  This may be down to one or more of the hair cycle stages not performing.

Hair Cycle

Anagen – this is  the part of the cycle where your hair follicle produces new hair

Catagen – The hair stops growing in this part of the cycle but is still attached to the scalp, if you have long hair you may notice that it won’t grow past a certain point due to this phase.

Telogen – this is the ‘resting’ phase of the hair cycle and is the shortest cycle

Exogen – this is the last phase of the hair cycle when the hair falls out to allow the follicle to start producing new hair.

Losing Hair – this is often down to the Telogen and Exogen phases either arriving too soon or being accelerated

Limited Hair Growth – the hair follicles aren’t producing enough new hair growth to match the natural hair loss.

We naturally lose around 100 hairs per day, we don’t tend to notice this as the new growth is in step with the hair loss.  If the hair is dropping out too quickly or there isn’t enough hair growth  – we start to notice patches of thinning hair.
