Lip Neutralisation
Treatment for Dark and Melanin Rich Lips
Do you have lips that appear purple, blue, or brown due to sun damage, smoking, or natural pigmentation? At Borciani London, our innovative Lip Neutralisation Treatment can help you achieve even-toned, natural-looking lips.
Why Choose Lip Neutralisation?
For many people, lip pigmentation can be frustrating and hard to correct—until now. Our advanced techniques allow us to neutralise even the most stubborn lip discolouration, giving you a more uniform lip colour. Using custom colour charts, we select the correct neutraliser based on your unique lip hue. For example, if you have a purple tint, we apply an orange neutraliser to balance the tone. Don’t worry—you won’t leave with orange lips! The neutralisation process leaves you with soft, nude or pink lips after healing.
During the healing process, it’s normal for your lips to look slightly patchy. After seven days, you can comfortably cover them with lipstick while your new, even-toned lips emerge.
- Corrects discolouration from sun damage, smoking, or natural pigmentation
- Custom-blended neutraliser tailored to your lip hue
- Results in soft, more uniform coloured lips
- Includes two sessions with options for additional treatments if needed
Lip Blush for Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers are a great option if you would like to add volume to the lips. The side effects can be that you
- lose lip colour in the border of the lips making them appear to blend into the surrounding skin.
- The centre of the lip can also look pale as the skin in stretched out, generally the more dermal filler in the lip – the paler they appear.
Lip blush is a great way to restore the border and definition, correct asymmetry and give the lips a natural shape and wash of colour. This will also help your practitioner as the natural lip border will be present for your next dermal filler appointment which may prevent filling past the vermillion border.
If you have had dermal fillers or are considering it then please do leave 4 weeks between dermal fillers and the lip blush to allow it to settle and heal. If you are considering dermal fillers then it is a great idea to do your first lip blush session before your dermal filler and the second afterwards.
What happens during the treatment?
- We will assess your lips and discuss your concerns – whether you are looking to define and re-pigment or neutralise your lips.
- The lips will be numbed with a topical anaesthetic for 20-30 minutes
- The practitioner will outline the lip border and define the shape of the enhancement – please note: we do not work outside the natural border of the lips
- The border will be implanted first to ensure that the shape does not alter throughout the procedure.
- A thin veil of colour is then implanted through the lip, we use this technique so that the blush/neutralisation is as natural as possible.
- This process will be repeated 3-4 times until the right level of pigment has been achieved or the unwanted tones have been neutralised.

Frequently Asked Questions – Lip Blush & Lip Neutralisation
Frequently Asked Questions – Lip Blush & Lip Neutralisation
What is lip blush treatment?
Lip blush is a permanent makeup treatment that uses soft layers of pigment to define the lip border, enhance colour, and create a naturally fuller look with a flattering colour.
What is lip neutralisation?
Lip neutralisation corrects cool, dark, or bluish tones often present in melanin-rich lips (Fitzpatrick types IV–VI). A warm ‘correcting’ pigment is layered to balance the unwanted tone before applying your chosen colour, usually at the control session.
Who is a good candidate for this treatment?
You may benefit from this treatment if you:
- Have pale, uneven, or blurred lip borders
- Have melanin-rich lips with cool or dark undertones
- Want long-lasting colour without wearing lipstick
Does it hurt?
We apply a topical anaesthetic before and during the procedure. Most clients describe the feeling as a light scratch or a little stingy but it’s very well tolerated.
How long does it take and how many sessions do I need?
The initial appointment takes around 90 – 120 minutes although the majority of this is numbing and creating the shape. All treatments require 2 sessions; 4-6 weeks for Lip Blush and 10 weeks for Neutralisation. Very stubborn or pigmented lips may require additional sessions.
What should I do before my appointment?
- Exfoliate the lips the day before and use a hydrating balm for 48 hours before your treatment
- Avoid blood thinners (ibuprofen, aspirin), alcohol and caffeine 24 hours before
- Stop retinoids, acids, and peels at least 7 days before
- Stay well hydrated and avoid sunburn on the lips
- Please take antivirals if you suffer from cold sores
What can I expect during healing?
- Day 1–2: Lips appear bright and slightly swollen
- Day 3–5: Peeling phase begins, colour may fade temporarily
- Day 7–14: Colour begins to stabilise
- Final result appears after 4–6 weeks and 10-12 weeks for Lip Neutralisation
How long will results last?
Results typically last 18-24 months before a refresh is needed. Regular SPF use and touch-ups can extend longevity.

Do not expose your enhancement to direct sun, tanning treatment, Jacuzzi’s, saunas, salt water chlorinated pools and direct shower spray. Bleaching, waxing or dermal fillers in the lips. We advise using a balm with SPF if you are sun exposed.
IMPORTANT NOTES
Your selected colour will be stronger and more sharply defined for 4-5 days, it will then shed away appearing as if little or no colour is present. Over the next 3 weeks, the colour will blossom into a considerably softer version of the original colour. The approximate healing period is 14 days, however this can be prolonged if your immune system is compromised, if you are generally stressed or have a poor diet. The healed results for dark lip correction are visible in 6- 12weeks, you may experience hyperpigmentation and/or hypopigmentation during this time, please wait 10 weeks for healed results
The control session is essential for lip procedures
Keep in mind that some unevenness in colour is to be expected – this is the purpose of the control visit. It’s important to remember that everyone retains pigment at different levels, some clients are more resistant
